What do we think:
Guitar Scale Mastery takes a different approach to teaching. It teaches Guitar through embedding the knowledge of Guitar Scales in your mind. Although clearly less complete than the first two finishers, it does a very good job in teaching beginner guitar with a multitude of useful and interesting guitar chords.
The course arrives as a 3-year membership site. It includes the following components, all operated via your web browser:
- The main component of the course is The Guitar Scale Mastery System. It provides straightforward teaching, a lot of theory combined with good training exercises.
- The 72 Guitar Scale Activators are backing tracks enhanced to help imprinting the scales in your mind. Though skeptic about them at first, after using the program we feel they do their job relatively well.
- The 246 page Pentatonic Guitar Success eBook teaches guitar “the regular way” – the way most courses do. While the main course teaches mostly guitar scales, the additional topics included in this eBook make the course more complete – and a top place finisher in our tests.
Our main gripe with this course was its complete lack of video material, which generally ease learning and makes it more fun. However, few courses at this price level include video, so this is understandable.
Breaking this down:
- Guitar Scale Mastery is much less comprehensive and less well executed than first place finisher Learn and Master Guitar. They are in completely different leagues both in price and in quality.
- Although higher in price than Jamorama, Guitar Scale Mastery does not contain any video files, and is a smaller course altogether, so it also can’t beat Jamorama to the 2nd spot.
However, the course has several good traits, which win it the third place of dozens of courses we tested:
- The course offers a lot of comprehensive learning material.
- Teaching is high quality.
- It presents a fresh and effective approach.
- Our testers found the Activators effective.
- Wrapping things up, the course price is relatively low.
